Kapela klezmerska Shum Davar wydaje Tribute to Ukraine

Klezmerski zespół Shum Davar, łączący muzyków z Białorusi i Czech, wydaje Tribute to Ukraine. Zajmuje się pieśniami ukraińskimi autorstwa Čorny Rilla i Swaľava Kazačok. Muzycy wzywają do niezłomnego wsparcia ruchu oporu przeciwko tyranom rządzący w dzisiejszej Rosji i Białorusi.

Opis w języku angielskim:

"Both tunes are from today's Ukraine, a part of which overlaps the territory of what used to be Galicia. This region is the original homeland of a large Jewish community that has brought to the world a great many traditional klezmer songs. Chorna Rilla contains direct references to the atrocities of war, death, and seclusion. It speaks of a battlefield whereon lies a dead Cossack, while there is no one around to take him away and lay him to rest. Svalyava Kozachok is a song rediscovered for the world, including Shum Davar, by the great American violin player Yale Strom who traveled through Eastern Europe around 1993. He heard the tune from the Romani cellist Piytchu Batchi. The song is energetic, and we really enjoy playing it, even though we don't know the original lyrics. Simply put, music knows no borders," explains Belarusian accordion player Aliaksandr Yasinski.

The recording of the Tribute to Ukraine has been created in response to an initiative of NAPA Records, which offered its facilities and recording equipment free of charge for podcasts, music, and videos created to support Ukraine.

Shum Davar dedicates the recording to all of the brave people in Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia who risk their lives and the safety of their families in fighting such tyrants as Putin and Lukashenko. At the same time, the band calls for support for a fundraising campaign organized by the Memory of Nations (Paměť národa) to collect aid for Ukraine.

"For more than 20 years, the Memory of Nations has been mapping resistance against various totalitarian regimes and pointing out the dangers posed by expansive, aggressive dictatorships. All of the band members are pacifists. Paradoxically, however, seeing the military prowess of the aggressor in contrast with the brave defense of the Ukrainian nation makes us wonder whether pure pacifism is the best way to go. Ukraine needs more than medical supplies and humanitarian aid. Brave men and women are fighting, getting wounded, and dying. They need weapons and means for defending themselves. We must give them what they need to wage this fight," adds Shum Davar front man Daniel Kundrák.

Established in 2013, Shum Davar plays Jewish, Romani, Eastern European, and Caucasian folk and popular songs. The band's repertoire of traditional folk songs is complemented by compositions authored by accordion player Aliaksandr Yasinski. Shum Davar's discography comprises three albums.
